In our second edition of Ask SAMHSA, the topic we are tackling this month is substance abuse prevention. If you aren’t sure what this is be sure to check our previous blog post explaining the concept, “Introduction to Ask SAMHSA” or our alcohol rehab guide. Now through March 1st SAMHSA will take your questions about substance abuse prevention via Facebook, Twitter and the comment section of this blog post. If you are submitting questions over Twitter please use the hashtag #BHQ. Once we gather all the questions, we will then select a couple for our expert Frances Harding, Director of the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), to answer by video on the blog March 4th.
To help you frame some of your questions, here is some information on this week’s expert Frances M. Harding. Ms. Harding serves as Director CSAP and is recognized as one of the nation’s leading experts in the field of alcohol and drug policy. CSAP provides national leadership in the Federal effort to prevent alcohol, tobacco, and drug problems. Director Harding also serves as the lead for SAMHSA’s Strategic Initiative on the Prevention of Substance Abuse and Mental Illness, which will create prevention prepared communities where individuals, families, schools, faith-based organizations, workplaces, and communities take action to promote emotional health and reduce the likelihood of mental illness, substance abuse including tobacco, and suicide. We look forward to your questions!
When selecting questions for video response, the following criteria will be considered:
- Is the question on topic?
- The selected expert can answer the question.
- Resources are available to provide an answer in a timely manner.
If your question is not selected for video response we will work, dependent on availability of resources, to respond to questions in follow up blog posts.
