The Community Anti Drug Coalition of America (CADCA)
CADCA is the nation’s leading community-focused drug abuse prevention organization. It represents more than 5,000 community anti-drug coalitions across the country. Their efforts are focused on training local grassroots groups on how to assess and develop comprehensive plans to address substance abuse-related problems.
CADCA’s Annual National Leadership Forum: February 8 – 10, 2011
Since 1990, CADCA has been hosting their Annual National Leadership Forum. The Leadership Forum is considered the nation’s largest meeting for community prevention leaders, treatment professionals and researchers. SAMHSA has actively supported this national event since its inception in 1991.
The theme of this year’s Leadership forum, Coalitions Moving Forward: Mapping the Future, is focused on the future of alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse prevention, treatment and research. Check out CADCA’s Forum Website for more details.
A Meaningful Partnership between SAMHSA and CADCA
SAMHSA has had a long-standing partnership with CADCA since the inception of the National Leadership Forum. In 2004, SAMHSA officially partnered with CADCA to host Community Prevention Day, convened the day before the start of the National Leadership Forum. This annual gathering provides a venue for participants to receive training and technical assistance specific to substance abuse prevention, as well as to network with other grantees and partners.
This year’s Community Prevention Day will be held on February 7. Attendees will have the opportunity to share experiences and information and take part in workshops to develop strategic organizational skills. The all-day event is open to the public and free, but REGISTRATION is required. Check out the Community Prevention Day Agenda for more information on the agenda and specific workshops.
SAMHSA, CADCA and You – Looking for Input
In addition to the Community Prevention Day workshops, SAMHSA will be hosting sessions during CADCA’s National Leadership Forum. For a complete listing of the sessions see the Leadership Forum Agenda. However, there is an opportunity for you to become involved now:
Federal/Coalition Partnerships: SAMHSA, Social Media and YOU!
Date/Time: Feb. 10, 11 a.m. – Noon
Room: National Harbor 3
This interactive session will pilot a new method of engaging conference participants by allowing them to suggest and vote on ideas for discussion before the workshop begins and then to continue the conversation online after the session ends. SAMHSA will employ a web-based tool http://feedback.samhsa.gov to compile recommendations from conference attendees about How SAMHSA can better use social media to partner with Coalitions on Behavioral Health issues. Discussion and recommendations from the session will help SAMHSA evaluate its evolving social media strategy to better meet the needs of coalitions.
If you plan on attending CADCA’s National Leadership Forum OR are a Coalition member, be sure to provide us with your feedback. The forum will be open from now until January 30 at 8 p.m. EST.
